Post NYSC Clarity and Depression Is Real and it’s going to hit some of us real hard
During this time, you’ll confront the harsh reality everyone growled about: people on Twitter, old teachers, the unemployed neighbor, and even your parents.
Years will fly by with little to show for it. Finding a job or a meaningful pursuit will be extremely challenging. Suitors who once seemed interested will vanish. You might lose your partner of several years to someone “better” or more successful. Your dreams of becoming a millionaire with a beautiful family will fade. You’ll face disrespect and mockery. Family will lose hope in you, and friends will cut ties or belittle you.
You’ll see it all, and you’ll face it all.
Then, you’ll become sad and depressed. You’ll lack the motivation to do anything but sit and cry, and you’ll feel more pain with every heartbeat.
In this state, you’ll start to understand some of life’s greatest mysteries:
– Why people commit suicide.
– Why some turn to crimes like robbery and kidnapping.
– Why some become drug addicts and others turn face towards haram means of earnings.
Gradually, your judgment of these people will soften. You’ll see why things are the way they are, and you’ll feel compelled to make a decision.
But relax. Just relax.
Your saving grace will come from realizing that others have walked this path before and triumphed.
There’s really only one path to follow in order to escape this depression: 👇
Realize that this is Al-Baqarah 2:155 playing out in your life:
“We will certainly test you with a touch of fear and famine and loss of property, life, and crops. But give good news to those who patiently endure.” — Quran 2:155
Turn back to the originator of this trial. Seek Him with a sincere heart, and ask for a solution. He is the only one who can give you that good news.
Cry to Him, beg Him, and be consistent and persistent. Then put in the effort to find a solution for your situation.
Days, Months or even years have passed, and you remain consistent and persistent in your efforts. You refuse to indulge in anything haram and continue to depend on Allah, believing that good will come eventually.
Then, one day, as you humbly lift the 37th block for a bricklaying job you recently landed, with blistered hands and broken toe nail, the Big News comes in!
You’ve been considered for that corporate job that everyone is finding difficult to get. The right man has finally arrived in your life and is ready to settle with you till eternity. Someone sees the potential in your new business and is ready to invest millions in it.
And the list goes on.
…
There are countless ways Allah (SWT) can bestow his blessings upon you.
He just wants you to uncover the treasure he buried in Surah Baqarah verse 152
“Remember Me; I will remember you.” - Quran 2:152
May we all enjoy a good life filled with ease. 🤎
